Randy Hillier, an independent MPP based in Southern Ontario, was been permanently suspended from Twitter on Tuesday for “unacceptable” views on COVID-19, as Twitter continues its purge on Conservative voices. Previously, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump were permanently booted from the platform.
Do you have views and opinions that contradict the leftist narrative? You might just find yourself permanently banned from the town square that is Twitter. Randy Hillier will be joining a slew of Conservative leaning politicians that have lost their Twitter privileges in recent years. Donald Trump lost his Twitter, and other social media accounts, after the Jan. 6 riot. Marjorie Taylor Greene got the boot for some of her statements regarding COVID-19.
This comes as the hashtag #ArrestRandyHillier continues to trend on Twitter. Hillier faced constant criticism for his opposition to public health measures, including mask and vaccine mandates. Hillier frequently brushed off reports of hospital overcrowding, and the numerous deaths from COVID-19. A Twitter spokesperson claims that Hillier was permanently suspended for violating the platform’s “COVID-19 misleading information policy.” Twitter forbids people spreading false or misleading information about COVID-19 which may lead to harm. Despite the platform’s rules forbidding COVID-19 misinformation, many view Twitter’s sudden move to deplatform Hillier as censorship. The social media giant is often accused of censoring Conservatives, something it strongly denies.
