The world’s richest man is giving “serious thought” to creating a new, free-speech friendly social media platform.
Elon Musk announced Saturday evening he may be getting into the social media business, in response to a question by an Indian IT professional on Twitter.
Pranay Pathole asked the billionaire if he would consider building a new social media platform, with less propaganda and less censorship. Musk responded, stating he was giving “serious thought” to the idea.
Former President Donald Trump released his social media platform Truth Social earlier this year to mixed reviews. Calls for an alternative to Twitter have been growing since the new CEO stepped in.
Twitter previously banned Donald Trump, along with a slew of right-leaning figures. Recently, a Canadian politician was permanently banned from the platform for his controversial views on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Independent journalist Andy Lee was banned from Twitter for reporting on the trucker convoy.
