Lawmakers in the state of Utah have moved forward to ban men from competing in women’s sports.
On Friday, Utah lawmakers voted to override the governor’s veto of legislation that would ban biological men from playing on girls teams, even if they switch genders. This comes as man-turned-woman Lia Thomas won a swimming championship, in a move many characterized as cheating.
Utah is not alone in banning men from women’s sports. In fact, it is the 12th state to do so. with Idaho being the first. The argument is that men have a biological advantage over women, and should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Critics of the bill say it is “transphobic” and hurts transsexual people. While many people are not pleased with the plan to ban men from women’s sports, some have described the move as “excellent.”
