Police in Canada have issued a warrant for the arrest of a priest that allegedly raped little Indigenous kids in the 60s and 70s.
The hunt for Johannes Rivoire has resumed due to pressure from the Indigenous community in Canada. The priest is wanted by Canadian police for sex crimes he allegedly committed half a decade ago.
While Rivoire held the role of a Catholic Oblate priest, others accuse him of practicing the work of Satan. An Inuk leader blamed the priest for his friend’s suicide, referring to him as the “devil priest” during an interview with APTN.
Rivoire currently lives in France, complicating matters for Canadian police. The government has refused to comment on whether it has attempted to have him extradited to face charges.
Rivoire is not the only Catholic priest accused of committing sex crimes against helpless children. In 2014, Eric DeJaeger was convicted of “horrific” sex crimes that left a “dark legacy” in Nunavut, according to the judge.
DeJaeger was sentenced to 19 years in prison. Appeals to reduce his sentence were rejected. A quick Google search fails to return any news about his death, suggesting that he is likely still alive.
