Canada’s Liberal government is considering a truck tax, a move seen as revenge for the massive cross-country protests that happened in February.
The Trudeau government is looking to slap light-duty pickup trucks such as Ford F-150s, Toyota Tacomas, Chevrolet Silverados and Ram 1500s with a $1,000 tax. Heavy-duty pickup trucks, like the Ram 3500, would be hit with a whopping $4,000 tax.
The move has been described as “misguided” and “fucked” by Brett Wilson, an investment banker and Dragon’s Den panelist. Others have described it as a way for Trudeau to get revenge on truckers.
The Freedom Convoy shut down large parts of Ottawa and multiple border crossings in the month of February.
The protests drew international attention, embarrassed the Trudeau government, and lead to a lifting of provincial mandates all across the country. A sitting politician was arrested for his role in the protests.
