Not over yet: US Justice Department looks to reinstate mask mandates on airplanes

Did you think your days of wearing a mask on an airplane were over? They won’t be if the Justice Department gets its way.

On request of the CDC, the US Justice Department is looking to reinstate mask mandates on planes and airplanes in the United States.

The Justice Department is looking to overturn an order that voided the mask mandate for travel. A notice of appeal has been officially filed in Tampa.

On Monday, federal mask mandates were voided by an U.S. District Judge in Tampa. It is notable that the judge was appointed by Donald Trump.

Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle slammed the CDC for “failing to justify its decision.” She also criticized the agency for allegedly not following proper rule-making procedures.

Despite the judge’s ruling, health experts continue to recommend wearing a mask. According to the CDC, “masking is a critical public health tool for preventing spread of COVID-19, and it is important to remember that any mask is better than no mask.”
