James Bezan: Trudeau should be charged with fraud

Is the Prime Minister of Canada above the law? He seems to think so, but his luck may be running out.

Conservatives are looking to get Trudeau out of office, and potentially behind bars. This stems from the time Trudeau accepted a luxury vacation from his friend Aga Khan.

Trudeau and his family were treated to an island getaway in the Bahamas, a gift totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. The suspicious gift raised questions about ethics, and now raises questions about criminality.

James Bezan, the Conservative ethics critic, went as far as to write a letter to Commissioner Brenda Lucki demanding another criminal investigation into Trudeau.

This comes after the prime minister confessed that he did not give himself permission to accept the expensive gift from the Muslim leader.

“Mr. Trudeau admitted that he did not have the consent in writing of the head of his branch of government to accept this valuable gift. In my respectful view, Mr. Trudeau’s answer … requires the national police force to reopen the matter and begin a criminal investigation immediately.”

Interim leader of the Conservative Party, Candice Bergen, slammed Trudeau in the house of commons, reminding the public of the prime minister’s many scandals. “This prime minister likes to break the rules,” Bergen stated, noting Trudeau’s “illegal” interference in the SNC Lavalin trial.

She ended her speech by asking, “is the prime minister above the law?”
