Pierre Poilievre, the lead contender for the Conservative Party (CPC), showed his base that he’s a big fan of freedom and the right to protest.
Sitting MP Pierre Poilievre met up with patriots as they marched to Downtown Ottawa. Among the group was veteran James Topp, who walked across Canada to protest vaccine mandates.
Earlier this month Topp and other activists met with several MPs in Parliament Hill. Notably, Poilievre was not in attendance. However, he kept his promise to meet with protesters in Ottawa on Canada Day.
Later Thursday Poilievre tweeted “end all the mandates. Restore our freedoms. Let people take control of their lives.”
Poilievre has made ending medical mandates a centre-point of his leadership campaign.
Poilievre is becoming increasingly popular among Conservatives and even some centrists.
Some critics have labelled Poilievre a Canadian version of Trump. The Toronto Star recently penned an article titled: “Pierre Poilievre is Canada’s most dangerous, appalling politician.”
