Media outlets turned on the Canadian prime minister after he spread blatant lies about Iran.
The prime minister of Canada typically enjoys a certain amount of protection from the mainstream media, something he has joked about in the past.
However, that didn’t protect him from the wrath of multiple MSM outlets that took him to task for spreading blatant falsehoods about Iran.
On Tuesday Trudeau posted on Twitter:
“Canada denounces the Iranian regime’s barbaric decision to impose the death penalty on nearly 15,000 protestors.”
This claim, like many other statements from Trudeau, lacked basis in fact. Iran never sentenced 15,000 protesters to death. The claim has been debunked thoroughly.
Left-leaning media outlets including CTV, Global News, Toronto Star, and Globe and Mail all slammed the prime minister for publishing fake news.
Even CNN published an article about Trudeau’s lies. The prime minister’s office refused to issue an apology, instead telling the media that Trudeau was “informed by initial reporting that was incomplete and lacked necessary context.”
Articles critical of Trudeau are uncommon in most mainstream outlets in Canada. This is likely due to the bailouts the government has given these companies.
It is important to note these outlets maintain editorial independence, despite the perception of them being in Trudeau’s pocket.
