Trudeau spent close to $4 million on lawyers to impose Emergencies Act, grant himself dictator-like powers

Ruling the country with an iron fist doesn’t come cheap, as Canadian taxpayers are learning.

The Trudeau government has no problem dipping its hands into taxpayer funds, especially when it comes to granting itself authoritarian powers.

After pressure from Conservative MP Dane Lloyd, the Liberal government provided details on the dollar amount it spent on lawyers when it imposed the Emergencies Act.

The government spent $3,756,458.66 to hire private lawyers for work related to the Emergencies Act, however it refused to get into detail about how the funds were spent.

Trudeau used the Emergencies Act to disperse the mostly peaceful Freedom Convoy protest that gripped the area around Parliament in Ottawa.

Protesters sang songs, shared food with each other, and generated international media attention with their event. In response, the prime minister and other far-left politicians likened the protesters to “terrorists” and “seditionists.”

To date, no charges of sedition conspiracy have been filed against any of the protesters involved in the Convoy. Most of the charges were mischief, a relatively minor offence in Canada.
