Police in the Netherlands have chosen to stand on the side of left-wing climate activists.
Seven people have been arrested after Dutch farmers descended on the Hague to protest threats to their livelihood, as was reported by the Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Dutch farmers are protesting the government’s plans to close farms in order to meet its goals on “climate change.”
The former president of the United States previously showed support for the movement, stating, “we stand with the peaceful Dutch farmers who are fighting for their freedom. It’s horrible what’s happening.”
Riot police with batons attempted to stop the Dutch farmers from making their way to the parliament buildings.
The farmers have resorted to more protests after talks between them and the government fell apart last week.
Speaking to local media, one protester stated, “it’s a shame that we want to follow our passion here in the Netherlands and that we are simply chased away.”
Dutch farmers have received international support for their cause, with Canadians marching in solidarity with their movement. Toronto 99 previously reported on protests happening in Toronto in 2022.
