Danielle Smith launches human trafficking task force

Alberta will no longer be a safe haven for those that wish to engage in human trafficking.

The premier of Alberta has vowed to track down and prosecute human traffickers that operate in the province, according to a post on her Twitter page.

I’m proud to stand with Minister Mike Ellis and our community partners to announce how Alberta is taking action to combat human trafficking,” wrote Danielle Smith on Friday afternoon.

Human trafficking is a serious criminal offence, and “the number of incidents of human trafficking increased year over year between 2011 and 2017,” according to a report by Statistics Canada.
