A recent report by the National Post has raised concerns about Liberal bias in Canada’s court system.
The Trudeau government is under fire after the National Post exposed the fact that political donors that favour the Liberal Party were more likely to be appointed to the bench than their Conservative counterparts.
The report comes after an 8-month investigation by the National Post and the Investigative Journalism Foundation. Authored by Kate Schneider and Christopher Nardi, the article states:
76.3 per cent — of [bench] appointees who had previously made political donations had given to the Liberal Party of Canada.
In comparison, just 22.9 per cent of appointees had given to the Conservative Party of Canada, and 17.9 per cent of those who donated gave to the New Democratic Party.
Moreover, the number of Conservative donors appointed to the judiciary has dropped significantly since the Liberals came to power, whereas the number of NDP donors more than doubled between 2016 and 2022, the year the NDP entered an agreement to support the Liberals.
Criminal lawyer and legal expert Ari Goldkind criticized the perceived favouritism of Liberal donors by the Liberal government. In an X (Twitter) post, Goldkind slammed the “far left shift” in Canada’s judiciary system.
This is not the first time the Trudeau government has been credibly accused of corruption. Earlier in the year, it was slammed by Conservatives for allegedly turning a blind-eye to Chinese-state interference.
Earlier in his tenure as prime minister, Trudeau was found to be in violation of ethics laws for an illegal trip to Aga Khan’s private island.
Some Conservative MPs have tried to unsuccessfully to pressure the RCMP into doing its duty and charge the prime minister with criminal fraud.
