Canadians have had enough of paper straws and re-usable bags, and are demanding a return to the norm.
After the Federal Court ruled against the Liberal government’s ban on plastic straws and grocery bags, it is clear that the law is not on their side. As the Canadian Press reported:
The federal government’s ban on plastic straws and grocery bags is in question after the Federal Court ruled on Thursday that Ottawa had overstepped its bounds in designating all “plastic manufactured items” as toxic.
…
In her ruling, Justice Angela Furlanetto noted that evidence shows “thousands” of different items are in that category, and they all have different uses and chemical makeups.
And she said that surely includes some items for which there is no reasonable expectation of environmental harm.
Now that the courts have ruled against Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, it is time for the federal government to abandon its plans to ban single-use plastics.
Naturally, convicted climate criminal Guilbeault rejected the ruling, stating on X (Twitter) that his government may appeal.
However, his post was met with condemnation, receiving only 280 likes and over 1,000 comments criticizing a possible appeal at the time of writing.
This petition demands that Guilbeault and Trudeau return plastic straws and grocery bags to the people of Canada.
