Another one of the prime minister’s henchmen has jumped ship, as the Liberal Party faces near-certain defeat in 2025.
David Lametti, former justice minister and sitting Liberal MP for the LaSalle—Émard—Verdun riding in Quebec, has announced his resignation.
Lametti will be officially out of the Liberal Party on Feb. 1, and will begin work at a law firm, as was reported by the National Post.
This comes as the Trudeau government faces consistently low polling numbers, being beat in almost every single recent poll by Pierre Poilievre‘s Conservative Party (CPC).
The CPC has a 99% chance of winning the most seats at the time of writing, according to a model by 338 Canada.
Toronto 99 has previously reported on Poilievre’s rise in popularity. Even traditionally pro-Trudeau outlets like the Toronto Star have acknowledged the prime minister’s all-but-likely defeat in 2025.
