A viral video purports to show an intoxicated Ella Trudeau advocating for people to vote Conservative, but its authenticity is in question.
Ella Trudeau, the daughter of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, was allegedly captured on video telling people to vote for the Conservative Party (CPC) while intoxicated in a McDonald’s.
One social media user shared the video on X (Twitter), earning nearly 10,000 likes at the time of writing. The tweet and video are archived here.
Some X users believe the footage is genuine, with one person writing, “you know things have gotten so shitty when literally the newest generation is so vested emotionally in federal politics.”
Others expressed skepticism, with other person writing, “unless she got some serious facial reconstructive surgery, that’s not her. Why [are] you posting lies and spreading misinformation?”
There is no evidence that the person in the video is Ella Trudeau. The woman depicted in the video has long, dark hair. Recent pictures show the prime minister’s daughter with lighter hair.
The woman in the video claims to be in university, however, Ella is too young to be in post-secondary school. She is currently 15 years old, and her birthday is Feb. 5, according to an Instagram post by her mother.
The prime minister’s office was forwarded a copy of the video, but Toronto 99 did not receive an immediate response. The article will be updated if and when Trudeau’s office responds.
Trudeau came under fire in the summer of 2023 after he used his children, including Ella, as political props. This was shortly after asking for privacy in the wake of his public separation from his long-time wife Sophie.
The prime minister came under more scrutiny after it was revealed he and his wife had been separated for at least a few months before the summer announcement.
UPDATE: The article was updated on Feb. 28, 2024 to include additional context. The language in the social media image was modified slightly. Read more about our editorial standards.
