Maybe this was the wrong place for this sort of rhetoric?
Police are investigating after someone assaulted a pro-Hamas protester and snatched her hijab during a ceremony for Israel Independence in Ottawa earlier this week.
Hayfa Abdelkhaleq had a her hijab ripped off after shouting the anti-Semitic chant “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” in the area outside of the ceremony.
The phrase is deemed to be anti-Israel and anti-Semitic by critics, as it is interpreted as calling for the destruction of Israel.
Toronto 99 has received a copy of the video, which has been widely circulated on social media. The incident happened on May 14.
“After I see even the video now, I’m still shocked. I can’t believe this happened, and I don’t want this [to] happen to any other Muslim girl,” said Abdelkhaleq in a statement to local media.
