The infamous People’s Party is in hot water.
Maxime Bernier, leader of the populist People’s Party (PPC), was caught building a secret residence in the American state of Florida, according to a bombshell report by the Counter Signal.
Former Rebel News journalist Keean Bexte published the story on Monday, providing a copy of the deed.
Maxime Bernier has purchased land and begun construction on a waterfront villa on Sanibel Island, Florida, according to an official deed and construction permits exclusively obtained by The Counter Signal.
The island property was purchased just months before the populist leader launched his most recent bid for office in a rural Manitoba riding, with serious construction and upgrades to the tropical oasis beginning only recently.

“[Maxime’s] ‘party’ is a pure grift. He talks big on certain issues and then collects millions in donations to support his life in Florida. His party is a private corporation, without an executive or constitution,” wrote one critic of the PPC on X (Twitter).
“PPC leader Max Bernier has been defrauding his own donors for years, fundraising a salary from his supporters to buy a luxury tropical villa,” wrote another critic.
The PPC leader has been described as a “grifter and a liar” in a video by independent media provider Frontline.
Toronto 99 is in the process of verifying social media claims that the source of money for the alleged Florida property project was cash siphoned from PPC donors, however there is insufficient evidence for these reports at this time.
Bernier was contacted and asked to provide clarification on Bexte’s article, but Toronto 99 did not receive an immediate response.
The PPC never managed to win a single seat in any of the federal elections its candidates ran in.
Bernier’s infamous party is supported by only 3% of Canadians, while Pierre Poilievre‘s Conservative Party (CPC) is supported by 42% of Canadians, according to a recent poll by Abacus Data.
UPDATE: The article was updated on Jun. 17, 2024 to add more details. Maxime Bernier has been contacted for comment, but Toronto 99 has not received a response. The article will be updated if and when that happens. Read more about our editorial standards.

Bernie serms like sly grifter taking the people of Canada for a ride. From what I’ve seen Canada is slowly but surely sinking under the weight of dishonest and probably corrupt politicians.

Nonsense. Regarding the “waterfront villa”, images of the property surfaced, and it is a rundown project property that he+wife intend to fix and maybe rent/sell. Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like legacy media propaganda in attempt to attack a true conservative with real values and principles.
