Klaus Schwab is under fire after media reports claim that he and other top executives at the World Economic Forum (WEF) acted inappropriately with women and made racist remarks.
The report comes from an unlikely place: mainstream media outlet the Wall Street Journal. The recently published article claims that women that worked for the organization were “routinely sexualized and objectified.”
Female WEF employees were often warned not the spend time alone with Schwab and that he often engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour with his subordinates.
The Journal article suggests that Schwab may have stepped down as the WEF’s executive chairman in response to the outlet’s investigation.
Similar to Canada, harassment or bullying can be a criminal offence, according to an article by CSS. It is unclear whether any of Schwab’s alleged victims have decided to pursue criminal charges.
However, considering the severity of the alleged offences and the number of complainants, Swiss police may opt to start a criminal investigation into Schwab, one that may lead to significant fines or possibly even jail time.
Schwab is not currently under investigation by law enforcement, and is innocent until proven guilty. His spokesperson denied the claims in the Journal article.
