Danielle Smith refuses to rule out existence of ‘chemtrails’

The premier of Alberta has earned condemnation from both right and left-leaning media outlets for recent comments.

Alberta premier Danielle Smith is in damage-control mode after she recently suggested the United States government may be responsible for “chemtrails” allegedly spotted in the province.

The comments were made by Smith during a recent United Conservative Party (UCP) forum. The premier also refused to rule out the existence of “chemtrails” in the province, simply insisting that her government wasn’t responsible.

For this, Smith was lambasted by both the left-wing and right-wing media. Columnist Don Braid of the Calgary Herald accused the premier of coddling with “conspiracy theorists” in a recent article.

Believers of the “chemtrails” conspiracy theory maintain that “governments or shadowy forces are routinely spraying the planet with chemicals from scheduled passenger flights.”

There is no publicly available evidence to prove this theory. What conspiracy theorists describe as “chemtrails” are actually contrails.

Contrails consist of water vapour and fine soot particulates from jets that freeze into ice crystals in the sky.

The premier later walked back her comments on “chemtrails” via her spokesperson.
