Liberals rise in the polls, but Conservatives maintain lead – EKOS

After Trudeau’s resignation, the Liberal Party has seen a boost in poll numbers.

Before Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau announced his intentions to resign as the country’s leader, polls consistently indicated that Conservative Party (CPC) leader Pierre Poilievre would earn his party a supermajority in the next federal election.

However, a recent poll by EKOS suggests that the Liberal Party is becoming increasingly popular under new leadership.

39% of Canadians would vote for Poilievre’s party in the next federal election, according to the poll by EKOS. However, the Liberal Party (LPC) is currently polling at 28%, a huge jump from earlier polls when Trudeau was still at the helm.

“This is the reddest Ontario I’ve seen in a very long time,” wrote the publisher of X (Twitter) poll aggregator @CanadianPolling.

It is unclear what caused the jump in support for the Liberals. It was likely due to the fact the party is in process of finding a new leader.

Out of all the potential options, Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland are poised to win the leadership race. Both of them are not free from their share of scandals.

Carney has rubbed shoulders with Ghislaine Maxwell and Prince Andrew, both were notable for their associations with disgraced financier and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

While there is insufficient evidence to link Carney to Epstein’s crimes, the optics are certain to cost Carney in the next federal election should he become leader.

Freeland tried to bury the fact that her grand-father was a propagandist for the Nazi regime, as was reported by Toronto 99. She was also caught red-handed giving a standing ovation to a Nazi war criminal in 2023.

The CPC continues to hold a strong lead, with Poilievre still poised to become Canada’s next prime minister.
