Trump’s comments about Canada becoming part of America have not been well received on both sides of the border.

Trump: “Only because it’s meant to be our 51st state…One of the nastiest countries to deal with is Canada”
Go ahead, MAGA—try to defend this.

Since winning the 2024 election in the United States, Donald Trump has repeatedly talked about annexing Canada.
While this concept has received some consideration on social media platforms such as X, a recent poll suggests that this proposal is incredibly unpopular with Canadians and Americans alike.
90% of Canadians believe that Canada should not join the United States, according to a recent poll by Angus Reid. The results have remained unchanged since January, when a similar poll was conducted.

Similarly, only 8% of Americans want America to annex Canada, either through economic or military means.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that Canada was “meant” to be America’s 51st state, appearing to be unfazed or unaware of the unpopularity of this proposal.
Canadian politicians across the board have rejected this idea, including conservative politicians such as Pierre Poilievre and Danielle Smith.
Canadian YouTuber J.J. McCullough had some harsh words for Trump on X: “Every single thing he says about Canada is utterly untethered from reality and his 51st state thing is deranged raving. No one can defend or justify any of it because it’s literal madness.”
