Newly released documents show the Canadian prime minister chose violence over peace during the Freedom Convoy.
The dispute between Freedom Convoy participants and the federal government could have been resolved peacefully, according to several media outlets.
Despite the potential for a peaceful resolution, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau decided to invoke the Emergencies Act anyway.
Trudeau’s invocation of the act lead to several people having their bank accounts frozen, including independent journalist Andy Lee and a “single mother” from a small city in British Columbia.
Trudeau’s actions lead to an elderly Indigenous woman being trampled by horses, something that lead to a hospital stay.
Dozens of protesters, and even some journalists, were pepper-sprayed by police. Andrew Lawton of True North News was pepper-sprayed, along with a reporter from Rebel News.
An agreement was reached between protesters and the City of Ottawa on the Saturday before the crackdown, according to lawyer Keith Wilson, one of the lawyers for the Freedom Convoy organizers.
The protesters were in the process of leaving the city when Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act and clamped down on the truckers.
Justin Trudeau chose the path of violence, and is now subject to an inquiry over whether his use of the Emergencies Act was justified.
