A small town woman will not let the cops push her and her horse around.
Shelby Opheim, a woman based in a small town south of Calgary, has defied the police by continuing to ride her horse through her neighbourhood.
Despite facing multiple requests by police to cease riding the animal throughout High River, Opheim has remained defiant, stating it is within her right to do so.
The law permits residents to use horses as a mode of transportation. The mayor of the small town separated himself from left-wing mayors in the province and sided with the woman.
“Shelby’s more than welcome to ride her horse in through town,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass in a statement to local media.
This comes as mayors in larger Alberta cities such as Calgary and Edmonton have moved to restrict people’s freedom by taking away their plastic straws and grocery bags.
Premier Danielle Smith has long been at odds with left-wing politicians such as Jyoti Gondek, who have pushed for radical initiatives that fall in line with Trudeau’s green agenda.
